Website Updates!

Hey Everyone!

I just thought I'd drop in here and let you all know that I'm hard at work on the MDGS Youth website. I've re-done the "Shows and Events" page, and I will be adding and editing pages tomorrow. Snow days sure do wonders for all the rest of my non-curricular activites! If you want to see the changes, check it out at http://www.caprineclassics.org/mdgsyouth. If you have suggestions, email caprineclassics@hotmail.com.

Later everyone!

Spring Goat Day ~ March 12, 2011

Coming up in the near future here is MDGS's annual Spring Goat Day, held in collaboration with Michigan State's ANR (agriculture and natural resources) Week. Sprin Goat Day will be at MSU's Anthony Hall on March 12, 2010. Registration starts at 8:00 am. This year, we have some great changes to present to you. As usual, we will have a youth creative writing contest, cooking contest, soap making contest, and cheese contest. The new MDGS youth representative will be announced. And this year, we have an all-youth lecture thread for the entire day. We'll begin the morning with our 2010 MDGS Youth Rep Runner-p, Bethany Schreur, who will be presenting a lecture on 4-H and FFA Opportunities. Then, our 2008 MDGS Youth Rep, Shawnee Williams, will be teaching judging from 10-11. She'll be followed by the 2009 MDGS Youth Rep, Tyler DeWeerd, with showmanship from 11-12. Lunch will go from 12-1. At 1-2, Tyler will be presenting a lecture on fitting and trimming. Finally, the 2-3 pm lecture, Preparing for and Participating in an ADGA National Convention, will be presented by yours truly. We will have a fun-filled, educational day, and I hope many of you will come and participate! If you have any questions, let me know. Until next time!

A much-neede update.....

Wow! Time has really gotten away from me! I did not realize I hadn't posted in about 5 months! So sorry!!!

Okay, so recently, I attended the ADGA National Convention in AZ to garner ideas for the convention MDGS will be hosting next year in Grand Rapids. I was also running for ADGA nat'l Youth Rep, and I was delighted to be selected for Alternate! I am honored to be able to work alongside Amelia Caldwell this year to represent ADGA.

Speaking of which, my time as your MDGS youth representative is rapidly coming to a close. Someone else will need to take my place. If you're interested in running, please contact me for more info at caprineclassics@hotmail.com, or visit www.mdgs.org or www.caprineclassics.org/mdgsyouth.

Hopefully, I will have more information posted on here shortly. Again, my apologies for the lack of posts!

Apologies, GLOM, and ADGA Nationals

This post has three titles, and I will address each in turn.

First of all, apologies! I am sorry to not have been posting recently. Of course, I have valid excuses, but as my youth pastor would say "... Everyone has them, and none of them are good for anything!" So, I'll save those for another time.

With that out of the way, I will briefly discuss GLOM. The Goat Lovers Of Michigan club held their annual show Memorial Day weekend. That Friday night, we MDGS Youth hosted a showmanship fitting, techniques, and manuevers clinic. It went pretty well, thanks to my awesome helpers! There were about 20 people in attendence. Throughout the weekend, we had the bake sale fundraiser for the Tullar family, and we raised $150.00 for them. The fitting and trimming contest hosted on Saturday by our 2009 MDGS Youth Rep, Tyler, was very educational and interesting to watch.

About ADGA Nationals, the youth activites for that are being held on Sunday. While the registration deadline for that has past, you can still go hang out in Louisville, KY to watch! Best wishes to all of the MDGS Youth going! It will be a great week!

That closes the issues for this post. Hopefully, I will remember to post again soon!

4-H Goat Expo -- Review

The 4-H Goat Expo at MSU was held yesterday. Both Bethany and I were out to represent MDGS. We had a table with some posters and promotional flyers, and got to talk to some people about the club. Then we both went off to work as judges.... Bethany at the quiz bowl and me at the problem solving. After listening to some of the 4-Her's presentations, I was pretty sad that I'm no longer in 4-H and am not eligable to participate in the event! If you are in 4-H, though, I encourage you to go next year! It sure did look like a lot of fun. The events held were:
Photography Contest
Cookery Contest
Craft Contest
Judging Contest
Quiz Bowl
Skill-a-Thon
Illustrated Talks
Problem Solving
And more! Sounds fun, doesn't it?

More posts will be coming soon, concering upcoming MDGS Events. Also, here's a reminder: The deadline for early registration for the GLOM show on Memorial Day Weekend is May 8th. Make sure to get your entries mailed out before then. Hope to see you there!

4-H Goat Expo -- Update

Okay everyone, here's some more on the state 4-H goat expo.... it's being held at the Anthony Hall at MSU (where Spring Goat Day is every year). It starts around 7:30 am in the Pavilion, though. Around 9:00 am everyone goes on over to Anthony Hall. It ends in the afternoon around 2 or 3 I believe, but don't quote me on that! :) I am positive about the start times, though!

4-H Goat Expo

April 24th is the 4-H goat expo at Michigan State University. Bethany Schreur and I will both be there helping out with various things, and we will also have an MDGS promotional table set up. Come on out and see us!
I am working on getting the details from Mrs. Kast, and will post as soon as I know details such as times and schedules. I do know that there will be a quiz bowl, skill-a-thon, and other such activities, and for those of you who haven't participated in those before: it's a lot of fun!

See you then! ;)
